Meet Shannen

Meet Shannen, a Client Care Coordinator in Northern Ontario. Before joining Motion, Shannen worked at a local physiotherapy clinic as well as at a long-term care facility as a physiotherapist/occupational therapist assistant. Shannen was drawn to Motion because our values are in alignment with her own – with a central vision to make life accessible for everyone.

What was your professional experience before joining Motion?

Prior to joining the team at Motion I worked at a local physiotherapy clinic as well as at a long-term care facility as a physiotherapist/occupational therapist assistant.  While in that role I was very passionate about the clients and residents and enjoyed helping them with a range of tasks that would promote enhancing their day-to-day well-being.  I have always been people-focused and feel that is of utmost importance. I truly enjoyed my time in that role and the direct interaction with the individual, there is something extremely rewarding in helping people accomplish the things they need and want to do in their daily lives.

What drew you to this role and how has your career grown here?

When the opportunity to join Motion came up, I was quite interested as the company values align with my own. I have always been interested in all the devices and equipment that is available for individuals and thought it would be very rewarding and interesting to learn more about what is out there.

When I first started, I began in the front store as a Sales Administrator helping to manage retail and rental equipment requests and then began supporting the mobility consultants with their client files. The opportunity to transition to the Service department as a Client Care Coordinator came up and that is where I find myself today. This role is extremely dynamic and challenging and pushes me to learn more and do more each day.

What do you get to do here that you might not be able to do somewhere else?

At Motion everything is fluid, ever changing, and ever growing. There are always new opportunities, new products, and new experiences. We can take advantage of the numerous opportunities to learn and develop our knowledge and skills.

What’s truly great is that we get to see the entire process as we work closely with therapists and our clients, which helps us understand the entire picture and the broader client experience. There are numerous opportunities at Motion to see and learn about different products and essentially every request is different which means a lot of variety in everything I do.

What is the culture like amongst your team?

Motion’s culture is quite impressive! While there are many locations across Canada, the communication between them is thoughtful and engaging. Through our internal communications portal we can see what other locations are doing and post questions or meaningful messages. Everyone is open to talking and answering questions if you reach out. Regular meetings and town halls help ensure everyone is on the same page and that any questions can be asked and discussed as a group to best try and resolve them.

Our local team works very well together and we certainly try our best to support one another when able. We problem solve as a team; through thoughtful discussions we can work through issues to find solutions. We also enjoy having fun and doing team activities. In the past we have participated as a group in the Santa Claus Parade (and won an award!) which was a lot of fun.

What makes Motion a great place to work?

What I enjoy about working at Motion is the vast array of things we have exposure to on a daily basis. There are so many opportunities! If you’re enthusiastic and ask the right questions, you can see and do anything as long as it makes sense. Our location is a smaller store, but there are so many other stores you can connect with. Never be afraid to reach out to other locations to pick their brains or reach out to a Regional Director to ask questions.  The team dynamic both locally and across the company is great. The benefits and RRSP options are great too! I love all the initiatives that are available (e.g. the IDEA committee, the Exposes, 5 Days of Caring , etc.).

If you want to help make life more accessible for people in your community, Motion is hiring for a number of different roles.
