A message from our CEO: Putting care at the forefront

December marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) and Motion’s 5 Days of Caring (December 4-8) – an annual celebration of our employee’s shared dedication to Motion’s Vision, Mission & Values, of our focus on providing an exceptional experience for our clients, and of the integral part we play in the circle of care of so many Canadians. Motion’s CEO, Sue Gilpin, shares what the Motion team has planned for these events in 2023 and what we have in store for 2024 as part of our commitment to make life accessible for everyone.

Since 2021, Motion has paid tribute to our clients and employees during an annual event called 5 Days of Caring. This week-long event, which coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, is a chance for us to celebrate the contributions of our clients and employees on our greater community. Employees are also recognized through our Excellence in Motion Culture Awards and with on-site gatherings and team activities throughout the event. 5 Days of Caring also allows us to take our commitment to making life accessible for everyone to the next level by sharing our clients’ lived experiences as well as giving back to charitable organizations that are doing transformative work to support Canadians living with disabilities.

Sharing our clients’ lived experiences

Throughout the year we hear and learn from the lived experiences of so many Motion clients, including Francesca and her family, and Motion Client Ambassadors, including Beau Hayward and Brianna Seewald, which is an integral perspective that allows our team to continually enhance our product offering, services, and overall care for our clients. During 5 Days of Caring, Motion employees will have the opportunity to view a wonderful film by Motion client Maggie Sofea (pictured below) titled Ordinary Woman, Extraordinary Dreams about Maggie’s first return to the First Nations community where she grew up following a diving accident at the age of 11 – check out the film trailer on Vimeo. In 2024, we look forward to introducing even more clients and their experiences, including Stacey Tetz – a para-athlete originally from Calgary and now from Vancouver Island who won silver at the 2023 Canadian National Championships for powerlifting. Stay tuned for Stacey’s blog to come in the New Year.

A new partnership with the Shine Foundation

I’m also pleased to announce a new sponsorship for the Shine Foundation that will begin in 2024. The Shine Foundation (formerly The Sunshine Foundation of Canada) changes the lives of children and youth ages 11-21 living with severe physical disabilities across Canada, by ensuring that Shine youth live out their dreams – like Corbett’s dream pictured below. As mobility and accessibility equipment plays a vital role in allowing dreams to be achieved, we couldn’t be more excited to forge this new partnership.
