$10 million added in funding for children & youth with complex needs in BC

We commend the Government of British Columbia for recently adding $10 million in additional funding to medical equipment benefits for children and youth under its At Home Program.

This added funding investment will have a very real and meaningful impact on improving the quality of life of children and youth with disabilities, as well as their loved ones and caregivers. Families of children with complex needs often face significant financial costs in accessing the specialized mobility and accessibility equipment they need, such as wheelchairs, lifts, and home living aids. The increased support that this added funding will provide for families is critical in ensuring their lives are made accessible on all fronts.

The At Home Program provides medical equipment and respite assistance for approximately 4,600 BC children and youth with highly complex care needs. Beginning in April 2022, families will be eligible to receive more financial support to buy specialized equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, and beds.

On behalf of the thousands of British Columbians with disabilities who we are proud to support, we thank and applaud the Government of BC for making this imperative investment.
