Every October, Canadians come together to celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities in the workforce and build awareness for the importance of strengthening our workplaces through inclusion. It’s a time to recognize, raise awareness, and take action to create a truly inclusive society. Earlier this year, Motion introduced our newest Client Ambassador Amanda who is also an employee in our Saskatchewan region. Originally from Lachine, Quebec, Amanda moved to Regina for a summer job and never looked back. After working with the team at Motion Regina for her own equipment needs, Amanda joined Motion as a Customer Service Representative. At a recent Motion Rehab Expo in Regina, Amanda shared some words about her experience as a Motion client and employee. Check out the video and read her story below. “My name is Amanda. I was born 28 weeks premature. At the age of three I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and my parents didn’t know where to go. In 2016, I decided to make the great move from Montreal to Regina. Every winter I question why, but I don’t know. I’m still here. So I know that without a variety of occupational therapists and physiotherapists and different adaptive equipment, I would not be sitting here today. And for that I’m grateful. I’ve had wonderful experiences, but I know I’ve learned that being an adult is challenging and sometimes being an adult in a wheelchair feels absolutely impossible. I don’t remember exactly when Motion came into my life. All I remember is that when I needed it, they were there. They provided me with different adaptivity equipment that made my home feel more accessible and made me feel at home. Every time I had questions, they answered them without hesitation. And if they didn’t know the answer, they went to find it. When my wheelchair was in such disrepair that a torch was needed to remove parts, they never hesitated. Yes, a literal torch – I get told every day about it. But yes, it was amazing. But the most exceptional part about Motion is their customer service. They have gone above and beyond to recognize me as a person and not just equipment. As with everybody in this room, I know that your clients are very thankful that you see them for the individuals they are. So when Motional offered me a job in July of 2024, I could not say no. I had to accept ’cause it was an amazing opportunity and I was so glad to make an influence in a community that I’m so excited and honoured to be a part of. I am grateful to work with a variety of different clients and learn from their personal experiences as well as Motion employees. It is wonderful to work in a team that is so empowering and also very, very knowledgeable about their equipment; but aware that their clients are the ones with the most knowledge and the lived experience. The relationships you build, the knowledge gained between OT, PT, and all vendors here today, is not just about selling amazing products. It’s selling freedom, independence, and dreams that people are implementing, that we were told will never be possible. Motion puts clients before products and makes me keep me moving so I can make a difference. Thank you.” Learn more about Amanda’s story below.
