In her latest article, Motion’s CEO, Sue Gilpin, shares our team’s achievements over the last year and the actions we took to fulfill our Vision of making life accessible for everyone. At the centre of these actions was our commitment to providing exceptional care for our clients and “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future” in line with this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) theme. Motion employees provide life-changing care for over 80,000 clients in more than 200 communities across 5 provinces. Our team offers unparalleled equipment and technical expertise and plays a very important role in our clients’ independence journeys. Whether this is supporting with reliable and often highly customized equipment that allows our clients to enjoy a meal out with their family and friends, bath with dignity on their own, or speak with their peers at eye-level – none of this would be possible without their knowledge and care. This commitment to providing exceptional care doesn’t come without exceptional circumstances in which our certain clients may have not experienced their desired outcome. In an effort to ensure our clients voices are being heard, 2024 was a transformative year of efforts to amplify their input to ensure their ultimate quality of life. We are excited to have expanded the ways we hear from our clients about their needs and to learn from their feedback. Community engagement activities such as a Client Experience Survey (click the survey link to share your feedback), Central Equipment Pool (CEP) Stakeholder Engagement Sessions in Ontario, meetings with community and charitable groups, and one-on-one work with Client Ambassadors and Advisors are just to name a few. Our care can’t be compared In my visits to our 48 locations throughout the year, I am privileged to see first-hand how we so positively impact our clients’ lives. The way we listen to understand and come up with solutions that involve the client in every aspect is inspiring. To recognize this work and the experiences of our thousands of clients, Motion hosts an annual event called 5 Days of Caring. This week-long event, which coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, is a chance for us to reflect on our achievements and celebrate the contributions of our clients and employees on our greater community. Employees are also recognized through our Excellence in Motion Culture Awards and with on-site gatherings and team activities throughout the event. 5 Days of Caring also allows us to take our Vision to the next level by giving back to charitable organizations that are doing transformative work to support Canadians living with disabilities. Creating a lasting impact for our clients through giving back While our frontline work with our clients is second-to-none, so is the work we do with our many care partners. It’s these relationships that help build an even stronger foundation for how our clients access care and live independently. Whether it’s through learning and development for therapists, government advocacy for increased funding support, or sponsorships and donations to organizations that are doing important work in parallel with our efforts, we are passionate about creating a lasting impact for our clients and the people who care for them. This year, on Giving Tuesday (December 3), Motion is pleased to make donations to a variety of charities across the country that support our clients, including Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Sunnyhill Children’s Centre at BC Children’s Hospital, Variety – The Children’s Charity of Alberta, Kinsen Foundation, and The Dream Factory. Previous Next However, our giving is not limited to one day during the year. Motion is proud to support so many organizations that support Canadians living with disabilities, including being a Platinum Sponsor of Spinal Cord Injury Ontario and making large scale donations to Easter Seals Ontario, March of Dimes Canada, Holland Bloorview Hospital, Shine Foundation, Angelman Syndrome Foundation Canada, and so many others. Join us in supporting the work of these amazing organizations by making a donation!
