On International Wheelchair Day, I’m filled with gratitude, inspiration, and renewed commitment as we celebrate the strength of individuals who redefine what mobility means – not as limitation, but as possibility, independence, and purpose. At Motion, every client story reminds us why our work matters and why we must keep innovating, listening, and supporting. Our mission has always been to make life accessible – to empower people with customized mobility and accessibility solutions that align with who they are and how they live. But it’s the voices and journeys of our clients that truly shape what we do. Callie: Advocacy Born from Experience For Callie, mobility fuels meaning. At 26, she’s a graduate student in Critical Disability Studies, a passionate disability advocate, and one of Motion’s Client Ambassadors. After years of navigating fluctuating health and independence, accessing the right mobility support didn’t just improve her day-to-day experience – it changed her life. With a wheelchair that met her needs, she regained autonomy, confidence, and the ability to leave her home again. Today, she channels her lived experience into advocacy for universal design and inclusive access in academia and beyond, reminding us that mobility isn’t just functional – it’s foundational. Learn more about Callie’s story Alyssa: Strength, Sport & the Power of Belonging Alyssa’s story is one of perseverance and leadership. Born with spina bifida, she navigated countless obstacles – from equipment that didn’t fit to surgeries that tested her body and spirit. Yet her determination led her into para ice hockey, where she now represents Team Canada and advocates for inclusion at the highest levels of sport. Through Motion’s 5 Days of Caring initiative, Alyssa received a wheelchair tailored to her needs – a gift not just of equipment, but of dignity and confidence that supports her active life as a student, athlete, mentor, and leader. That’s why we’re proud to highlight the Central Equipment Pool (CEP) in Ontario — a key part of the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. The CEP provides high-quality new and recycled power wheelchairs with advanced features like power tilt and recline to ADP-eligible clients throughout the province. By pooling resources and ensuring responsible, consistent service, the program keeps costs down for clients and taxpayers, while making advanced mobility solutions accessible – even for those in remote regions of Ontario. Motion’s team of highly skilled experts across Ontario supports clients at every stage – from assessment and customization to maintenance, repair, and rebate returns. Our commitment is to keep people mobile, supported, and connected to the community without unnecessary barriers or delays. This new CEP landing page is more than information – it’s a gateway to access, support, and empowerment for Ontarians who rely on advanced mobility solutions to engage with life fully. Check out the CEP info page Looking Ahead with Purpose On this International Wheelchair Day, I celebrate our clients, advocates, partner programs like the CEP, and the Motion teams across regions who work tirelessly to support mobility and independence. You remind us that accessibility isn’t a service – it’s a right, a relationship, and a responsibility. Together, we’ll continue advancing access, celebrating possibilities, and building a future where mobility empowers every life. Sue Gilpin This material does not constitute medical advice.
