A Message from our CEO: National AccessAbility Week 2025 – Celebrating Accessibility & Inclusion

In honour of Red Shirt Day (Wednesday, May 28) and National AccessAbility Week (May 25-May 31), Motion’s CEO Sue Gilpin celebrates Motion’s contributions to shaping Canada’s accessibility landscape and the lived experiences of our clients for whom accessibility is paramount.

Accessibility has been at the core of our Canadian-owned business for 40 years. Our knowledgeable experts help Canadians access life-changing devices such as wheelchairs, scooters, stairlifts, ramps and more that provide independence and improve their quality of life. In 2024 alone, Motion supported more than 72,000 clients with their device needs and completed over 47,000 service interactions to ensure that devices were operating at their optimal performance.

But our involvement doesn’t stop at the device, our team offers guidance for funding opportunities to help ease financial burden, supports clients and their loved ones with transitions between home and care settings as well as between stages of life, and gives their time to support organizations in their community who are making a difference for persons with disabilities.

At Motion we strongly believe that we’re not just a place, we’re a partner that can be relied on as a critical member of our clients’ care circle as each person navigates their life through all its changes. We hear so much about the role we play in our clients’ lives from our Client Ambassadors, and in 2025 we were excited to add a two new Ambassadors to this group. Joining Beau Hayward, Jessica Oddi and Stacey Tetz are Garrick Estick and Motion employee Amanda Mees. In the words of Garrick, “Motion is all about enhancing independence, accessibility, and overall quality of life for individuals facing physical challenges, and thanks to the incredible support of this incredible organization, and their amazing devices, I’ve charted more paths going forward.” I couldn’t agree more or be more proud of this work!

Giving back is also an integral part of our culture. Annually, Motion’s makes over $60,000 in donations to organizations that support our clients. In 2025, Motion is proud to donate $5,000 to Easter Seals’ Red Shirt Day campaign (look out for our teams at the Red Shirt Day Walks for Accessibility & Inclusion), $5,000 to Shine Foundation, $2,500 to the Tamara Gordon Foundation’s scholarship program, $20,000 to AccessNow’s first-ever AccessFest that will take place in Toronto on Saturday, May 31, and so much more.

In the coming week’s we’ll also share our employee Vickey’s Giving in Motion story about her recent trip to Lima, Peru in support of Eleanore’s Project, a volunteer group that collects used wheelchairs for Peruvian children. We introduced our Giving in Motion fund in 2025 as an opportunity for Motion employees to access financial support for national and international volunteerism – in alignment with Motion’s Vision to make life accessible for everyone.

This National AccessAbility Week, join us by wearing red on Red Shirt Day, share the special video messages from our Client Ambassadors on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn, map the accessible places in your community using the AccessNow app, and visit us at AccessFest if you’re in the Toronto area! Together we can make a difference to create a fully accessible and inclusive society.
